Before ordering your 6x6 fence post caps, take a moment to measure your posts carefully. Wood posts can vary depending on the lumber type and treatment, and whether they are nominal or full-sized dimensions.
- Nominal 6x6 Caps – Designed to fit standard dimensional lumber posts that typically measure around 5 1/2".
- Full 6x6 Caps – Designed for true 6" x 6" posts with larger outside dimensions.
If your measurements fall between available sizes, you may need to lightly trim the post or use a shim to create a secure fit. Taking accurate measurements before ordering helps avoid installation issues later.

I purchased a full 4x4 Copper Ball Fence Post Cap, one of several I have purchased in the past. I like the size of the cap because is is slightly larger than caps sold at other stores. I do not cap a fence post, rather use it as a finial on a copper trellis.
It looks great! I was a little worried it would end up being too small, but it's the perfect size for my goat leads! Feels sturdy and well made, and it looks great in my milking parlor!
